Sainsbury's Tonbridge

‘3 Years Empty is Plenty’ Success

Thank you to Simon Roberts, CEO of Sainsbury’s, for taking the time to come to Tonbridge, meet with me, and look at the former Beales unit ahead of our exciting redevelopment.

Sainsbury’s are investing over £20million in Tonbridge to create a store that will increase their range of food, clothing and hardware. The new store will have more British produce, including fruit from here in Kent. In total, they will sell over 30,000 more products.

I am delighted that Simon confirmed on his visit that works will start in the coming weeks, with the new store completed by March 2026. They will start by converting the former Beales unit before moving in there and then converting the area which they currently operate from.

This is a huge vote of confidence in Tonbridge, and only possible because of everyone who supported Tonbridge Conservatives ‘3 Years Empty is Plenty’ campaign a couple of years ago. Thank you to everyone who did, including Jenny Lewis and Frixos Tombolis, who stood as the Tonbridge Conservative candidates for the Kent County Council elections.

This pressure allowed us to work with Sainsbury’s on such a big scheme, especially as other supermarkets are closing stores. Thank you to everyone who has been with me on this journey, I am looking forward to the new store opening next year.
