KM Column - School Bus Survey - 19 September 2019
I hope by now that most of us are back into the swing of things after a long, hot summer, that hasn’t quite finished. For those who have started at a new school, apprenticeship, job or university, I hope that it is going well, and you are enjoying it. With every new school year comes a fresh opportunity, and-sadly-all too often, some new bus problems.
Ever since I was elected your Member of Parliament I have been trying to improve our bus services. It’s been a slow battle, but together, we’ve made progress. This year, we’re going to do more. Working with bus companies and Kent County Council, we will see an increase in capacity, so fewer kids are left are the bus stop as full buses drive past; more appropriate routes for buses to ensure that journeys are as direct and quick as possible; and in some case more appropriate buses, as I know that there were problems double deckers getting down some of the narrow lanes in the villages. I hope that this will ensure that kids are getting to school on time and are getting home at a reasonable time too.
As ever, please do let me know how your journeys to school are going now we’re all back. I started a survey at the beginning of September, which it would be great if you could complete, if you have not done so already. You can find it here - https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/2019SchoolBusSurvey. I always welcome your feedback and it’s important that I receive it so I can take it to the bus companies and let them know exactly what the problems are and ask how they are able to fix it.
