KM Column - Kings Hill Bus Survey - 10 January 2019

I hope everyone enjoyed some time off over Christmas and that you’re now well-rested and ready to get back into the swing of things. We’ve got a busy year ahead.

For most of us the beginning of January not only means back to work, it also means back to school, and back to the daily battle with buses to get in on time. For those living near Kings Hill, I know this is particularly difficult. As many of you know, Maidstone schools have a direct bus from Kings Hill which is incredibly popular, and I would like to see a similar service from Kings Hill.

That is why, at the end of October, I started a survey to understand the demand for a bus service from Kings Hill to the Tonbridge Schools. Without this, it will be difficult to argue to the bus companies exactly why this is needed. The survey closed just before New Year, and I am delighted with the number of responses we received. It demonstrates clearly the support for this service, and just how desperately it is needed.

I am in the process of analysing the results, but at first glance it is incredibly promising. I will be speaking with bus operators and Kent County Council as soon as possible to ensure we get a new service going to help those who need it. I am determined we must make more effort to make this journey easier for all those who need it.

I keep you updated on progress, but in the meantime please ensure that you keep me updated on any difficulties you experience. Please let me know if you think you can help me make a stronger argument.
