KM Column - Christmas Card Competition - 6 December 2018
This year, I asked children in our local primary schools to help me design my Christmas card. The competition proved incredibly popular, and I was inundated with hundreds of wonderful, creative and some even amusing entries. It has been a joy to see the vast number of talented and inspired children there are in our local area, and their skills and enthusiasm never cease to amaze me.
I loved looking through all the designs, but having so many wonderful entries meant that picking a winner was incredibly difficult. After a lot of thought, I decided that Ben Ferguson from Chiddingstone Primary School had the winning design. Ben’s design is on the front of the thousands of cards I will send out this year, including the one going to the Prime Minister.
The competition was incredibly close as usual, and I would also like to congratulate Cara from St Margaret Clitherow Primary School in Tonbridge, William from The Discovery School on Kings Hill and Lexi from St James the Great Academy in East Malling, for their excellent pictures, each winning the highly commended prizes.
I am delighted that as part of the prize, I will welcome Ben, Cara, William, Lexi, and their families, to Parliament for a tour in the New Year. After visiting each of them in their school and giving them 100 cards and some chocolates, I’ve asked them to come back and tell their school why they should visit too. The enthusiasm and support from their friends was wonderful to see, and demonstrated to me once again the outstanding education our schools provide.
I would like to thank everyone who entered for all the hard work that they put in, and I look forward to running the competition again next year.
