KM Column - High Street at Christmas - 13 December 2018

With Christmas in less than two weeks’ time, I expect most of you will have already finished your Christmas shopping.  But if you’re like me, and always somehow end up leaving it to the last minute, you may have a bit of time to think of the perfect gift and then go out and get it. For me, that will probably involve heading down to West Malling High Street. With so many wonderful and independent shops, I know I can find something special and unique for my family.  Even if you don’t think you’ll find exactly what you’re after, it’s quite likely you’ll find things you wouldn’t normally have thought of, and often something even better. Not only that, but you can soak up some of the Christmassy atmosphere, see the wonderful lights, and enjoy mince pies and mulled wine.

Supporting our high streets is essential to keeping our communities alive, that is why, on Friday and Saturday last week, I went to work behind the counter at some of our shops; Ian Chatfield’s Butchers and Finch House in Tonbridge, Soles with Hearts in West Malling, and Tonbridge Market. They all do such a fantastic job and hold a special place in our high street and community. They work so hard, especially in the run up to Christmas, and it’s important that we support them, because without them our high street, town, and community, would be poorer. The atmosphere in the High Street around Christmas time is unlike any other time of year, and you should all make sure you pop in at some point.

Whether you need to get gifts, or just want to relax in amongst the Christmas madness and want to enjoy a hot drink, I would strongly encourage you to head to one of the wonderful shops on West Malling High Street.
