Tom has represented Tonbridge, Edenbridge, and Malling since 2015, working on better transport, rural communities and supporting the fantastic schools and businesses in our community.

After a career in journalism, the Foreign Office, and the British Army, serving on operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, he was elected to Parliament and elected as Chair of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee in 2017. Focusing on Russian corruption and China’s attempts to threaten Britain’s economy and democracy. He published reports that exposed the challenges we face and how to make the UK safer and more prosperous.

Tom founded the China Research Group (CRG) and led the debate on re-evaluating our relationship with Beijing.

In 2022, Tom was asked to serve in Cabinet as Security Minister and has been focused on promoting Britain’s national security from the Home Office. He has worked on combating child sexual exploitation online, fighting fraud, hostile states, organised crime, and terrorism.

Tom was asked by the Prime Minister to lead a cross-government taskforce on the defence of Britain’s democracy against hostile states, disinformation and cyber attacks.

Tom is a Dementia Friend and an active supporter of the Alzheimer's Society while being a Honorary Fellow at St Augustine’s College of Theology in West Malling, and Patron of Hospice the Weald, YMCA West Kent and Spadework in Offham. He is also a Vice-Patron of the Kent Autistic Trust and Honorary Member of the Rotary Club of Tonbridge.
